Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by boss Frank.
Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League home defeat of 2025.
However the primary talking point was the visitors' next goal when Vicario lost the ball far beyond his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.
However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.
Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
One of those jeering sessions truly irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a early lead prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he's a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That goal was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain more calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it's hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next most distant top division goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," he remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders went back to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to make the correct connection and place it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the end of the season.
Only one of those victories have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered another game. Every game has a single story, today we lost in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to develop."
Tottenham have lost four straight home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
