The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
