The former Liverpool manager says coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
