Liverpool Refuses to Alter Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Recent Slump, Insists Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the club's hierarchy agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he has no intention of discarding their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a turnaround. The head coach admitted that six defeats in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny Amid Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he emphasized that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or management structure following a substantial investment of almost £450m.
"We share common perspectives," remarked the manager, whose side will meet Los Blancos in the Champions League and travel to Manchester City in the English top flight.
Player Depth Stays Unquestioned
Slot believes his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and all ready for the fixture list". He mentioned that the summer investment in footballers like the German international and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the years to come".
Gelling Difficulties
When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I provide reasons and people say I'm offering alibis. I can list five or six reasons why we are struggling for victories or experiencing losses as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."
- No matter if I could identify multiple factors
- When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
- Unfortunately six defeats in seven games
Backline Performance
Only the Lancashire club (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from open play this season than Liverpool (19). The first-place team, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no reason to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after 10 games without a shutout.
"From my perspective we don't allowing many opportunities so I find no basis to change our playing style totally but we must improve in preventing goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were leading 3-1, we barely allowed a shot on target. In all the games we played until now we haven't given up a numerous openings. Not at all. We do concede a bit more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But in general I don't feel that our challenge is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we don't score the openings we produce."
