Harvard ex-president Summers Leaves from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership

One-time economic leader the Harvard professor is exiting the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just several days after a series of electronic messages between him and deceased financier the accused trafficker became widely known.

He stated in an announcement that he was "thankful for the privilege to have served, enthusiastic about the promise of the enterprise, and eagerly await following their development".

The former Harvard president, who once presided over Harvard University, stated on Monday that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Email Communications

The freshly disclosed communications revealed that the official communicated with Epstein until the eve of his 2019 apprehension for suspected trafficking of underage individuals.

In another announcement, the technology organization expressed it respected the economist's decision to depart.

"We value his many contributions and the insight he offered to the Board," the organization commented.

Congressional Action

This announcement comes after the two houses of the US legislature voted on Tuesday to pass a bill that would require the federal prosecutors to disclose its files on Jeffrey Epstein.

The bill will afterward head to the office of President Trump for approval. Trump has stated he plans to sign the bill, after modifying his stance on the issue following objections from his supporters.

Message Details

A collection of Epstein-related messages disclosed by the Congressional committee days ago included several prominent individuals in the Epstein's previous network, without suggesting any criminal activity by those individuals.

The communications showed that the economist and Epstein often met for meals, with he often trying to link Summers to influential global figures.

Personal Response

After the emails were made available with the general audience, Summers stated he took "complete accountability for my poor decision to maintain interacting with Jeffrey Epstein".

He further stated that he hoped "to reestablish trust and fix bonds with the individuals closest to me".

Previous Positions

Summers held high-level positions under two Democratic presidents; functioning as treasury secretary under President Clinton, and as head of the economic advisory body under Barack Obama.

He presided over the university from five years and continues to be a academic there. When stating his departure from public duties recently on Monday, he stated he would maintain his educational duties.

Additional Consequences

Following the economist's statement on earlier this week, the Center for American Progress, a progressive research organization in DC where he was a senior fellow, announced that the economist was not associated with the institution.

He became part of the directorate of the AI company, which creates the AI chatbot, in last year - following a unsuccessful effort to remove its CEO OpenAI's head.
