Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
