Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with results so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
